Couples counseling sessions are typically 50 minutes, but depending on your situation, 75 or 100 minute sessions are also an option.
Do you struggle in your relationship yet believe that your love is worth fighting for?
Many relationships fail because people have unrealistic expectations. Difficult times are not necessarily a sign that you should break up. In fact, difficult times are to be expected and part of the natural life cycle of relationships. Think of them as growing pains. One of the biggest factors determining the outcome of your relationship is whether you have the right tools to navigate the challenges that arise. With safe and open communication, the knots in your relationship can be untied to allow growth, deepening, and connection that you may have never otherwise reached.
In working with couples, I am grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and particularly emphasize attachment patterns. Do you feel anxious each time you separate from your partner? Do you push your partner away when things get tense? The way we were wired as children profoundly influences our ways of connecting in romantic relationships. By working through the emotional content that underlies surface tensions, deep and lasting healing happens.
Couples therapy is designed to:
- Help foster emotional safety in your relationship.
- Communicate more effectively.
- Manage fighting.
- Heal painful cycles that you cannot seem to escape.
- Create intimacy.
- Improve your sex life.
- Resolve negative family patterns that you are repeating.
I specialize in working with infidelity; while hugely painful, it also presents an opportunity to do an honest inventory of your relationship, and to heal the trauma that typically sets infidelity into motion.
