“REAL MEN DON’T CRY.” “MEN MUST PROVIDE.” “BE STRONG.” “MAN UP.”
What if you are not feeling strong? What if you want to pursue a profession that does not earn enough to support your family? What if you have taken on the “man’s role,” but feel empty and unable to connect to yourself or others? What if you have unmet emotional needs that you are afraid to express? What if you have no idea what you are feeling? What if your partner is chronically disappointed in you, but you have no idea why?
Even in a relatively evolved place like San Francisco, men suffer in our patriarchal system.
Patriarchy is as painful for men as it is for women, because much is lost in a system that demands that you be “strong and successful,” and denies you the right to feel fear, sadness, or insecurity. Emotional confinement leads to a range of issues that affects relationships and career, including anger, shut-down, difficulty with intimacy, stress, and sexual dysfunction.
We will work through questions around your masculinity—what it means to be male, what it means to be male in relation to females, and what it means to be male in relation to males. I will support you to access and process your full range of experience so you can feel whole, secure, and connected.
